Hua Hin Honeymoon Guide

Hua Hin Honeymoon Guide

Hua Hin is a relaxing beach town, perfect for couples wanting a romantic honeymoon in Thailand. It’s located just three hours from Bangkok near the Cha Am region and is home to some of the best golf courses in the country. Unlike other beach towns near Bangkok, there’s still a quiet and relaxed atmosphere here on the Hua Hin beaches.
If you’re not looking to travel too far from Bangkok, definitely consider having a Hua Hin honeymoon! There’s lush Thailand nature with Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park nearby and, many beautiful Hua Hin beaches. Have a relaxing Hua Hin honeymoon and unwind with your lover at one of the many rooftop bars or with a game of golf.

What to do in Hua Hin Thailand?

There are many things to do in Hua Hin Thailand on your honeymoon. Experience the lush Thailand jungle in Kaeng Krachan National Park while navigating the water rafting of the Phetchaburi River. Stroll through the Hua Hin nightmarket, visit Wat Ampharam temple. Perhaps you’d rather enjoy a drink with your lover overlooking the Hua Hin beaches on your Thailand honeymoon. Our Hua Hin guide has all the best things to do in Hua Hin for honeymooning couples:

Hua Hin Temple

1. Wat Ampharam

Wat Ampharam is a beautiful small Buddhist temple located in the city centre of Hua Hin. Although it’s nowhere near as impressive as other temples in Thailand, it’s got a charm and is a central meeting point for your Hua Hin honeymoon. If you’re coming here for your Hua Hin honeymoon make sure you read up on things to know before visiting Thailand, as you need to dress modestly to visit temples.

2. Hua Hin Nightmarket

The nightmarket is one of the more popular Hua Hin Thailand attractions. Selling everything from clothing to accessories, footwear, food, fresh seafood and more! Be prepared to haggle for a bargain, as the prices are usually quite inflated. Convert back into your local currency to ensure you’re getting your bang for your buck on your Hua Hin honeymoon.

3. Locals Only Food Tour

Venture off the beaten path Thailand style, with a locals-only food tour of Hua Hin. We always eat at restaurants packed with locals, because that’s where the best food is. This tour showcases the local food heroes in Hua Hin where you can taste some of the best food on your Thailand honeymoon.

4. Plearn Wan Retro Markets

Plearn Wan is a retro-themed market with vintage furniture and charming stalls. It’s one of the best Hua Hin Thailand attractions for honeymooning couples. The Plearn Wan market resembles old shophouses you see in Bangkok and has many idyllic spots to snap some rad photos on your Hua Hin honeymoon.

5. Snorkelling Talu Island

Go snorkelling at Talu Island on your Hua Hin honeymoon! Take a speedboat to the tiny island of Koh Talu and discover beautiful coral reefs and tropical fish. You’ll get to snorkel two different reefs, before indulging in a buffet lunch. Afterwards, you have the option to go kayaking, squid fishing, nature trekking or to visit the turtle sanctuary. If you’re looking for an awesome day trip from Hua Hin, take this snorkelling tour of Talu Island.

6. Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

The Hua Hin Sam Phan Nam Floating Market is more of a retro shopping complex than an actual floating market. There are over 200 shops sprawled alongside a man-made lake, with the option to take a boat tour. This floating city was designed specifically for tourists and has many shops selling souvenirs. If you’re after a more authentic floating market, check out the Amphawa Floating Market

Taxis in Hua Hin

If you’re going to catch Taxis in Hua Hin, make sure you get a metered taxi or agree on the price before getting in. Thailand’s taxi drivers have a bit of a reputation for ripping off unsuspecting tourists. You can use Uber in Hua Hin depending on the time of year, we’re giving you $5 USD off each of your first 4 Uber rides.
An even better option than Uber is Grab! It’s cheaper than Uber and there are more drivers. We loved using Grab on our Hua Hin honeymoon, as you can’t get ripped off and don’t have to pay with cash (unless you want to). Here’s up to 100 THB off your first ride with Grab or use our referral code ‘GRABHBACKPACKERS’.

Hua Hin Transport Tips!

  • Agree on a price before getting in or, take a metered Taxi.
  • Know the conversion rate from your currency to Thai Baht.
  • Have small change for the driver.
  • Download Maps.me (offline maps) to track your movements and give directions.

Money in Thailand

The local currency in Thailand is Thai Baht, $1 USD = 32 Baht (dependent on the current exchange rate). There are many international ATMs in Thailand however, they charge pretty insane withdrawal fees. Try to avoid all small ATM transactions in Thailand. If you are going to use the ATM, we’d recommend getting the maximum amount of cash out at once.
Bring a decent amount of USD (or whatever your local currency is) and exchange it when you get to Thailand to avoid the gnarly ATM fees. Some banks even offer foreign exchange cash packs, which means you don’t have to worry about exchanging money. Just be wary of walking around with loads of cash, as you will be a target especially in touristic areas like Khao San Road. If you need to transfer money internationally, use Transferwise, it’s the fastest and cheapest way to move money around when travelling.

Thailand Travel Insurance

You’d rather not think about all of the things that might go wrong on your Hua Hin honeymoon, but these things can and do happen. We like to think of travel insurance as a safety net, as it’s saved our butts big time on more than one occasion. We had our bags stolen, with passports, cameras and a decent chunk of money, and thanks to travel insurance we were able to replace these valuable items.
I fell ill in Cambodia and had to spend a week in a hospital, which racked up a huge bill. Without travel insurance, we would have been in thousands of dollars of debt. It’s not worth the risk to travel without insurance! Keep your mind of ease on your honeymoon in Thailand by travelling smarter and safer with World Nomads travel insurance. These guys are the best in the business with affordable coverage for you on your backpacking trip in Thailand.
